Deep Dive Videos

Every lab-tested lens set on CineTraits comes with curated video content — a free teaser for everyone and a full Deep Dive for premium members. Here's how they work and where to find them.

What Are Deep Dive Videos?

Deep Dive videos are curated video overviews that accompany every lab-tested lens set on CineTraits. They're designed to give you a visual walkthrough of a lens set's optical character — covering how the glass renders in real-world conditions, highlighting the key traits and test results, and giving you a feel for what the set looks like on-camera before you commit to renting or buying.

Two Versions: Free Teaser & Full Deep Dive

Every lens set that has a Deep Dive video comes with two versions. The Free Teaser is a shorter cut available to everyone — it gives you a taste of the set's character and a glimpse of the optical tests we ran. Think of it as the trailer. The Full Deep Dive is the complete, uncut video that goes significantly deeper — walking through each focal length's performance, comparing traits across the set, and discussing practical shooting implications in detail.

Who Can Watch What?

The Free Teaser video is always available to every user regardless of membership tier. The Full Deep Dive video is gated by tier. Indie members unlock access to most full Deep Dive videos, while Hollywood tier members unlock everything — including any exclusive or extended content. If a video isn't available at your current tier, you'll see a clear indication letting you know which tier you need to upgrade to.

Where To Find Them

Deep Dive videos appear at the top of every lens set page, sitting prominently in the hero section. If a lens set has both a free teaser and a full deep dive, you'll see a toggle or tab allowing you to switch between them. Individual lens pages within a set may also carry their own video content where available — the set-level Deep Dive covers the full family, while per-lens videos focus on that specific focal length.

Coming Soon Status

Some lens sets will show a 'Coming Soon' badge on their video section. This means the set has been lab tested and the video is currently in post-production. Deep Dive videos take time to produce properly — we capture footage, edit it against the test data, and narrate the findings. When the video is ready, it will automatically appear on the set page.

Why Deep Dive Videos Matter

Static test images and character badges tell you a lot, but video brings the full picture together. You can see how flare behaves when the light source moves, how bokeh transitions from foreground to background, how focus breathing affects a rack focus, and how colour rendering shifts across different lighting conditions. A two-minute Deep Dive video can communicate nuances that would take dozens of still images to convey — it's the closest thing to physically holding the lens yourself.
