Upcoming Test Data - Fairly Lights Scene

Upcoming Test Data - Fairly Lights Scene

Fairy Lights Scene is coming

We have done some sample test data across a few lenses of what our fairy light scene will be. This is a little bit of a proof of concept scene as we're still discovering and figuring out what type of physical tests we want to be doing within this scene that users are going to find most applicable.

We clearly are designing our structure around two key scenes, the nature scene and fairy light scene. And while we want to redo all tests for the fairy light scene for extra data, we need to find a healthy balance between tests that people are actually going to find useful.

Current tests we are definitely locking in and doing, and why.

  • Distances
  • Minimum focus W/ Subject
  • From the widest aperture to roughly to f8. This particular test isn't actually that important. However, it is nice to see the fall-off in a controlled environment as well as the maximum blur.
  • Close-up W/ Subject
  • From the widest aperture to roughly to f8. This test is useful for seeing what potential cat's eye, And swirl and bokeh texture is getting like at a close-up shot.
  • Medium close-up W/ Subject
  • From the widest aperture to roughly to f8. This shot is useful at seeing the same as above, cat's eye swirl, bokeh texture when getting further away. This is still a relatively close-up shot, however.
  • Torch Flare W/ Subject
  • From the widest aperture to roughly to f8-f22. This test is handy to see how much glare actually comes from a bright torch shining into the lens.

Current tests: We are a little unsure about their relevance and how we approach them.

  • Motion
  • Focus Rack - infinity to Minimum focus - No Subject
  • Show the total response of the bokeh as it goes through the entire distance.
  • Focus Rack - Subject to Background W/ Subject
  • This is one we would really like to do but we're just really unsure of its relevancy if people are actually going to find this useful.
  • Lens flare pan W/ Subject
  • We already have x2 flare tests; would look nice but likely unrequired.
  • Distortion pan test W/ Subject
  • At Medium Close-up - We are not completely locked in on this, but we do feel like a pan test in this environment really shows how much distortion is actually going on through the bokeh and fairy lights in the background, as well as the distortion on the face. This combined with a distortion chart test is probably enough data for most and will likely not continue to do a forest scene distortion pan test.

  • Focus & Bokeh
  • Minimum Focus - No Subject
  • Bokeh Rendering Only
  • Medium - No Subject
  • Bokeh Rendering Only
  • Infinity Focus - No Subject
  • Bokeh Rendering Only - Spherical aberration and the effects of bokeh once beyond infinity.
