Lens Combo Engine

Discover how lenses perform with optical adapters and rear blocks. Build custom combinations and predict the look before stepping on set.

What Is a Lens Combo?

A lens combo pairs a base lens with one or more optical adapters — front anamorphic adapters, rear optical blocks, or both. This lets you preview how a specific lens reacts to a specific adapter combination before you commit on set. Each combo has its own set of test data so you can see exactly what changes.

Building a Combo

Select a base lens, then optionally add a front adapter and/or rear adapter. If the rear adapter supports Modulate Tuner, you can dial in different strength levels (1, 5, or 10). The optical chain diagram shows your full pipeline from front to rear — exactly what the light passes through.

Viewing Test Results

Once a combo is selected, view the test results across different f-stops. See how the adapter changes the flare, bokeh, and overall character of the base lens. Results include both stills and video where available, and you can switch between them just like on the regular test viewer.

Scene-Based vs Flexible Tests

Combos support two test modes. Flexible mode allows freeform test entries per f-stop — ideal for quick A/B comparisons. Scene-based mode structures tests by category (flare, bokeh, sharpness etc.) with consistent sub-tests, exactly like the main lens testing system. The mode is set per combo.

Compare to Original

Each combo can include a reference image — the base lens without any adapters. When viewing test results, you can toggle the reference overlay to see exactly what the adapter combination changed. This is especially useful for evaluating how much character an adapter adds to a clean lens.

Discover Lens Combos

From the Discover page, Indie and Hollywood tier members can access the Discover Lens Combos section — a visual grid that works exactly like the main Discover grid but shows combo test data instead. Browse adaptered looks across multiple lenses at once.
